Effective Communication skills for teachers.
Are you interesting to listen to?
What does your body language say?
Could you use your voice more effectively?
Do you sometimes suffer from sore throats?
Does your body sometimes feel tense after a hard day’s teaching?
Are you confident in your use of language?
How can you develop gravitas and a comfortable and compelling presence in your
classroom, school and when speaking in public?
Through a series of practical exercises, teachers will explore and develop their own skills and hidden talents with
the opportunity to take risks and try out new communications styles in a safe and confidential environment. This course offers
a unique opportunity for teachers to take time out from the pressures of the classroom to focus on their personal, as well
as professional development. There is also a section on relaxation skills, vocal usage and vocal health – to prevent
vocal strain. Participants will leave with a CD recording, summarising the course, to remind them of key points.
Executive Voice is run by two professional opera singers who also teach. Susan is an NQT who taught in primary schools
before pursuing a career in music. She fully appreciates the physical and mental challenges that face teachers today and is
committed to support this valued profession in becoming more effective communicators. Neil has taught in secondary schools
and is now pursuing a career as a professional opera singer. He also has experience at senior management level in the business
sector; skills and knowledge he brings to these courses.
The course is designed for teachers that have completed at least one year of teaching, and who want to move the performance
element of their teaching to the next level.
